Will building a nest in the trees in my garden attract birds? If you think that your garden is a bit void of wildlife, you can build a nest and try to attract them. Many birds do appreciate what can only be called a ready-made home.

However, it is not only birds that will like a nest in the trees. Squirrels also like to live in nests. A ready-made nest will also attract squirrels. They will certainly make your garden more “lively”.

How To Build A Nest

Building a nest for birds or squirrels is not complicated. To start with you need a wooden box. If you would like it to last longer, you can treat it with weather-proof wood varnish.

Once you have found the right box, all you have to do is to collect a selection of sticks and branches. Make sure they are the right size for your box. Place them in the box and make sure they fit in nice and tight.

It is not strictly necessary, but you can also add leaves and grass. That will make your nest in the trees even more inviting to gardens critters. If you would like to make it really squirrel friendly, an addition of a small blanket would be much appreciated.

Once you have finished your nest, it is time to put it up in the trees. Fitting it in between the trunk and a couple of branches is a good idea. However, if you would like to make sure it stays in place, you could nail it to the tree.

Make sure you place it in a part of the tree that offers some shelter from the elements. If you would like to get really adventurous, you can even add a small platform to your nest where birds or squirrels can sit to watch their new domain.
